Benefits of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

Consider OMM as a Treatment Option

What is Osteophatic Manipulation Medicine?

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, also referred to as OMM, is the practice of decreasing restrictions with the body and allowing proper blood and lymphatic flow, which in turn allows the body to heal and improve function. It is a way to tap into the body's natural reparative mechanisms and help move the individual toward better function and health.

What is Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment?

Osteopathic manipulation treatment (OMT) is a hands-on treatment that focuses on correcting structural imbalances in the body, improvng circulation, and relieving pain. Infants, children and adults can benefit from these treatments. Many people get OMT to treat lower back pain, but specialized doctors use OMT to treat many conditions.

A doctor of osteopathy (DO) is qualified to perform OMT. These specialists have studied osteopathic techniques and undergone special training in the body’s musculoskeletal system and the interconnected system of nerves, muscles, and bones. The treatment may complement and sometimes even replace pharmaceuticals or surgery.

Benefits of Osteopathic Manipulation Medicine

OMM has several benefits. These include:

  • It may be used to relieve symptoms of a wide variety of common ailments, from chronic pain such as arthritis, headaches and back pain to injuries from stress or sports.
  • OMM provides an option that can be medication-free and non-invasive.
  • DOs have flexibility in treatment as it can be performed in many different environments.
  • It may be administered in combination with other medical treatments to promote positive outcomes.
